after walking thru the orchard i went down into the woods to take a look at this little retreat in the spring.
heading home on the lane again is this little 'drive-thru'.
remember the barn on the lane?

i decided to do a walk-around.

and then in i went. i was surprised to find this stone path at the entry.
a quick look around.

there was no ladder up to the loft so i shot this from the ground. the south side of the roof still has the tin on it. not so the north side.
and a final look back before returning home.

...with anyone else but me

1st of the season

after work i was down below the house doing some yard work. i heard the familiar sound of a train approaching. but as i waited the train never got noticeably closer.

aha. the river was once again flowing with barge traffic. i went up and got my camera and a beer and took up a spot and waited. and waited. and then went up and got another beer. and waited.

eventually the tow boat finally got up to where i could see it. i could not make out the name of the boat but it was operated by the marquette transportation co.

easter

seemed like a fitting morning to stroll my woods and see who has arisen from their wintry graves
the jack pine
aromatic sumac

the mosses

drop-seed prairie grass

may apple

ahhhh...and the dutchman's breeches

getting ready

yesterday tom worked up an acre and a half of ground for our 1st planting of sweetcorn. we had planted wheat on the ground for a green fertilizer. we will plant the ground closest to the field corn first. the sweetcorn needs to be planted at least a week before the field corn so there is no cross-pollination. we will try to get this first planting in next week if there is not much rain.
