an eagle christmas

 early this morning i was in the kitchen preparing an oil-poached garlic puree. the phone rang and it was dan wondering if i would come out and take some photos. yesterday on a walk to crystal valley he and cherie  had come across an eagle in a steel trap. after struggling with the trap they finally freed this magnificent bird only to find one of its legs was so badly damaged it was not able to move.

 dan carried the eagle back to the farm and made a nest for it for the night in the old hoop house.

 this morning it was alive but still barely able to move. while we had coffee by the wood stove the eagle enjoyed a large piece of salmon.

wrapped up and ready for the trip to quincy to the raptor rehabilitation center. google it! merry christmas...
