tom and the turtle

five or six weeks ago as tom was discing a field he spotted a large box turtle on one of his passes and got out to take a look. he was shocked to see a huge chunk of his shell missing and a large hole in him. on the previous pass the disc had apparently run over the turtle and severely damaged him.

tom carried the turtle to the house. he cleaned the wound and then went to town to find suitable material for a bandage. although the turtle has limited use of his hind legs he now seems to be doing fine. tom lets him out in the day and brings him in in the evening for a warm swim in the sink.

tomorrow tom and the turtle will make a visit to the dentist's office. clark, our local dentist, has agreed to form an acrylic dome over the wound. this procedure should allow the turtle to return to his life in the wild.
